Meet Dominick Marino

I’m Dominick Marino, a public servant, recovery advocate, and community leader dedicated to strengthening Ulster County from the ground up. With years of experience in behavioral health, supportive housing, and crisis services, I’ve worked directly with individuals and families facing some of life’s most difficult challenges. As Assistant Executive Director of Respite Services at People USA, I oversee peer-led crisis prevention programs that provide real alternatives to hospitalization, helping people stabilize, reconnect, and move forward with dignity. In my role as County Legislator for District 10, I bring that same hands-on experience to public service.
I’ve focused on expanding access to mental health and substance use services, supporting first responders, advancing affordable housing solutions, and building partnerships that make our communities stronger and safer. This work is personal to me. My lived experience drives my commitment to meet people where they are, reduce stigma, and create systems that actually work for those who need them most. Whether it’s advocating for policy, collaborating with local organizations, or showing up for neighbors in need, I believe real leadership starts with listening, accountability, and action.

Proven Leadership
Working Families Endorsement
Strengthening Our Response to Domestic Violence
Sponsored and passed legislation (res. 347) establishing a countywide Lethality Assessment Program, strengthening how law enforcement identifies individuals at high risk of serious or deadly domestic violence and connects survivors with services. The initiative passed with bipartisan support, with continued focus on training, coordination, and implementation.
Standing Up for Our Veterans and Combat Troops
Sponsored legislation (res. 478 and 479) supporting property tax exemptions for combat-zone veterans and disabled veterans, recognizing the sacrifices made by those who served our country and helping veterans remain financially secure in the communities they call home.
Lowering Costs & Supporting Local Taxpayers
Providing Gas Tax Relief
Supported efforts to provide relief at the gas pump, helping residents and working families keep more money in their pockets as fuel costs increased.
Returning More Sales Tax Revenue to Our Towns
Supported efforts to ensure that growing county sales-tax revenues are shared with our local municipalities, helping towns fund essential services while reducing pressure on local property taxpayers. The county has used its sales-tax agreements to increase allocations to towns, and a current 2026 proposal would distribute an additional $1.8 million in excess sales-tax revenue to Ulster County towns.
Supporting Mental Health & Human Services
Used professional experience in behavioral health and crisis services to advocate for mental-health resources, housing stability, crisis intervention, and stronger community-based services through the Legislature.
Bringing State Resources Directly to Residents
Partnered with the New York State Comptroller's Office and Highland Public Library to bring services and resources directly into the community, including an Unclaimed Funds event and support for the NYS Summer Reading Program.
Supporting Our Local Parks & Local Farmers
Worked with colleagues and community partners to help secure county support for local initiatives, including funding benefiting Friends of Milton Landing Park, while also supporting disaster relief for local farmers impacted by the devastating April freeze
